The Undugu Family TroupeBack to No Little Kindness' music This is one of a few groups that Jeremy recorded in Uganda last summer while he was there for work, filming for a documentary focused on poverty and those helping the poor. The members of UFCA 1, led by Isaac Owor, live in and around Kampala, Uganda, and this recording was made with about 15 people crammed into a tiny room in one of the city's many slums. UFCA stands for Undugu Family Cultural Association, the name of a movement begun after the Rwandan genocide by a Jesuit priest from Tanzania, Fr. Stephen Msele, SJ. The Swahili word undugu means brotherhood or sisterhood. The Undugu Family motto is this: "The world is one family and all people are our brothers and sisters." The Undugu Family helps orphans—adopting them, sending them to school, creating programs within the community for learning trades and creating sustainable income—and they promote peace and reconciliation among all people. There will be more details about the Undugu Family and UFCA coming soon, as we get closer to completing a CD to help raise funds for them. These sample songs are straight from the DAT recording, with no mixing or mastering…raw from the source. Please check back soon for more information about UFCA and to get the upcoming CD including music from UFCA, Francis Olaboro, and the Gulu Cathedral's morning mass. |
